Afghan Hound dogs originated from the mountains of Afghanistan and are also known as of Baluchi, Baluchi Hound and Kabuli Hound. They are of the ancient sight hound breed, and were originally used as hunter dogs. This traits are still carried over in the modern day afghan hounds as they have a high prey drive and could not get along with small animals. They are a big dog breed which stands to 24-29inches and 45-60 pounds in weight. They are very popular with their coat which is thick, fine and silky the reason why they are frequent participants in conformation showing and lure coursing events. This distinctive beauty of afghan hound dogs have made them a very popular pets and showdogs. Afghan Hounds have a life span of 12 years to 18 years depending of course of how well they are taken care of.
